Bonus: Q&A with Kieron Gillen with DIE The Roleplaying Game!

Show Notes

To tide us over til our next one-shot, here's a bonus episode where our host and GM Fiona interviews comic book writer and game designer Kieron Gillen about DIE the RPG, a bleak fantasy TTRPG based on the comic series of the same name (also made by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans)

In DIE, you play a group of authentically flawed and desperate real-world people (Personas) who are sucked into a cursed roleplaying game and take on the form of heroes, villains and power players (Paragons).

Some of you might want to get back to the real world for whatever’s waiting for you there. Some of you might want to stay in a reality where you can finally get what you want out of life. You all have to agree on whether you stay or go, and dead people can’t vote. It can get pretty bloody.

Show Notes

This week, Fiona is joined by the cast of the Merely Roleplayers podcast (Nat, Strat and Helen) and extra special guest GM Jason Cordova for The Between, a tabletop roleplaying game about a group of mysterious monster hunters in Victorian-era London.

Note: The audio for this episode comes from the 2 part livestream which was broadcasted on the WAIR Twitch Channel in January 2023 and it has been edited slightly to be more podcast friendly. You can check out VODs of The Between oneshot stream Jason ran for us here.

In The Between, the players take on the roles of residents of a place called Hargrave House, and their job is to investigate and neutralize monstrous threats terrorizing the city—threats that Scotland Yard won’t or can’t handle themselves.

The Between is directly inspired by the gothic horror TV show Penny Dreadful, but also takes a lot of inspiration from British horror classics, graphic novels like From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and pulp-era stories.

You can find out more information about The Between and Jason’s other work on the Gauntlet website.

Merely Roleplayers is the podcast where theatrical people play roleplaying games, in pursuit of maximum drama.

This April, Merely Roleplayers is launching Vigil: The Great Fire, the newest installment of their ongoing supernatural mystery series, powered by the Monster of the Week roleplaying game by Michael Sands. A demon of annihilating flame has been stalking the English market town of Sherrydown since the 1850s, and in The Great Fire, it finally reveals its endgame. In time, everything burns.

Episode #107: Itras By with guest GM Rob - The Hunt for Edgar!

Spoilers for 'Edgar' introductory scenario by Oliver Vulliamy and 2dSF in Itras By: Menagerie

Show Notes

This week, Fiona is joined by Doro, Frank, Jon, Kat, and special GM Rob for Itras By: A surreal roleplaying game set in a city full of strange occurrences, unusual places, and bizarre characters.

Published by Vagrant Workshop, Itras By is a setting that lies somewhere between European city life in the 1920s and the dream worlds of depth psychology.

At first glance, the city looks like a backdrop in a faded photograph. A snapshot from the beginnings of modernity. Trams, hats, the first automobiles, black & white silent films. But beneath that facade, we can hear the unpredictable murmur of our collective subconscious. The monsters in the basement of our psyche.

In the city center, reality is relatively stable, but the further afield you get, the more it deteriorates, mutates, and becomes dream-like.

You can find out more information about Itras By and buy your own copy on the Itras By website.
