This week, Fiona is joined by Tim, Alastair, Ben, Josh and Kylie from Dunking on the DM for ‘Paranoia’, a dystopian science-fiction tabletop role-playing game, published by Mongoose Publishing.

First published in 1984, ‘Paranoia’ is set in the dystopian future city of Alpha Complex controlled by Friend Computer and where information (including the game rules) are restricted by color-coded "security clearance". Player characters are clone enforcers of the Computer's authority (known as Troubleshooters) and will be given missions to seek out and eliminate threats to the Computer's control. However, things aren’t what they seem in Alpha Complex, and … well clones are replaceable!

This oneshot uses the 'Paranoia: Red Clearance Edition' ruleset. Information about 'Paranoia: The Perfect Edition' can be found here.

To tide us over til our next one-shot, here's a bonus episode where our host and GM Fiona interviews interviewing the co-founder and CEO of Free League Publishing, Tomas Härenstam, about the upcoming ‘Dragonbane’ RPG, a reimagining of the influential ‘Drakar och Demoner’.

Drakar och Demoner’ is Scandinavia's first and biggest tabletop RPG, originally launched in 1982. Now, 40 years later, Free League Publishing has announced a brand new and reimagined edition, with one foot firmly planted in the heritage of decades of Swedish gaming and the other in the modern and innovative game design for which Free League Publishing is known worldwide.

Moreover, Drakar och Demoner will be made available to an international audience, under the English title ‘Dragonbane’.

Dragonbane’ is described as a classic fantasy RPG full of magic, mystery, and adventure. This new edition is designed from the ground up to facilitate fast and furious play, with very little prep time and adventures that are a breeze to run. Though a toolbox allowing GMs to tell fantasy stories of all kinds, Dragonbane is a game with room for laughs at the table and even a pinch of silliness at times.

Though the Kickstarter campaign for ‘Dragonbane’ is over for the time being (and the release date for the core book is scheduled for August 2023), you can still access the quickstart PDF, including the complete introductory adventure Riddermound, and five pre-generated characters to play!

To tide us over til our next one-shot, here's a bonus episode where our host and GM Fiona interviews game designers Chris McDowall and Johan Nohr about the upcoming remastered release of ‘Into The Odd’, a rules-light, flavour-heavy roleplaying game of industrial horror and cosmic strangeness.

Bastion is the only city that matters. In its industrial age, it sits as the smoke-shrouded hub of mankind, surrounded by a world of lurking horrors and cosmic interference. The Underground spreads beneath the people’s feet and the stars loom above. 

In ‘Into The Odd’, players take on the roles of explorers braving places too far for maps and too old for records. Their expeditions touch the bizarre, the wondrous, and the horrific. Explorers search for riches, but also Arcana, mysterious devices with unnatural powers.

This remastered version revisits Industrial Bastionland, giving the original ‘Into the Odd’ a lavish hardback, full-colour restoration with expanded content.

To tide us over til our next one-shot, here's a bonus episode where our host and GM Fiona interviews Mattias Johnsson Haake, one of the game designers of ‘Symbaroum’ and the upcoming 5e expansion ‘Ruins of Symbaroum’, a fantasy tabletop RPG, often described as dark, gritty and deadly.

Symbaroum’ revolves around the Ambrians – a civilization that, two decades ago, was forced to flee their ancestral soil after a devastating war. Their new and promised land borders on the vast forest of Davokar, covering the remnants of the Empire of Symbaroum which fell into ruin hundreds of years ago. 

Brimming with natural resources and mythical treasures, the forest calls out to the Ambrians to be explored and exploited, but the road into its depths lies far from open. Not only are the shadowy halls beneath the foliage fraught with danger, monsters and infectious corruption; but there are also the elves of the Iron Pact who have vowed to die to keep anyone from disturbing the ruins of old, warning that the ancient evil of Symbaroum stirs in its sleep.
